Author

Ms. Krishnan N, a Zen entrepreneur in her 60s, founded Nava's Zen at 58. With 22 years as a lecturer, including 13 years in the Curtin University of Technology Perth, Australia Degree Twinning Program, she is now a certified yoga instructor, coach, and counselor. Her expertise enriches her current work.

Abstract
Corporate wellness programs are increasingly emphasizing mindfulness, mental health, and work-life balance, yet yoga often remains sidelined. This abstract examines the integration of yoga into corporate wellness initiatives and the benefits it offers. Despite the growing popularity of mindfulness practices such as meditation and breathwork, which originate from yoga philosophy, many organizations overlook yoga's comprehensive benefits. This study explores the disconnect between the promotion of wellness practices and the actual incorporation of yoga into corporate programs. It highlights the extensive benefits of corporate yoga, including improved mental clarity, stress reduction, physical health, and enhanced workplace morale.

Pulut Inti: Glutinous Rice with Sweet Coconut

Steamed white glutinous rice scented with pandan leaves, into mounts, atop with palm sugar sweet coconut.
Pulut Inti (Pulut Inti Manis) is a classic Malaysian kuih-muih (sweet delicacy) made with pandan-scented white glutinous rice topped with grated coconut cooked in palm sugar (gula melaka).

Traditionally, the rice and coconut are neatly folded or wrapped in banana leaves, but don’t worry if you don’t have them. Pulut Inti can still be made and tasted without the leaves (STEAMED SAGO CAKES/SAGU KUKUS).

Egg Sambal Recipe (Sambal Telur)

Boiled eggs in a spicy red chilies, fresh turmeric and dried shrimps gravy, scented with basil leaves.
Sambal is always a favourite and a must on the Malaysian food list. No sambal, spicy chili gravy, means a Malaysian meal isn’t complete.

When boiled eggs are added, it becomes egg sambal, or sambal telur. This recipe is special because it includes dried shrimp (udang kering), adding a rich umami depth on top of roasted shrimp paste (belacan), all mellowed with fresh turmeric (MUTTON RENDANG/RENDANG KAMBING).

FIsh Ball Noodle Soup

A bowl of rice noodles, with fish balls, fish soup, fried shallots and fried basil leaves, alongside a bowl of spicy dip.
While store-bought or ready-made fish balls offer convenience, homemade fish balls are a rewarding alternative. Making fish balls at home takes time, but it’s worth it. They are made 100% from fresh fish flesh and are completely free from preservatives. For this fish ball noodle soup, the fish bones and skin are for creating the fish soup (CANTONESE YEE MEE).

This forms the foundation for a delicious homemade fish ball soup recipe. The rest comes down to additional ingredients: your choice of noodles, crispy fried shallots, and crispy fried basil leaves (or spring onions as an alternative). Pair it with the homemade spicy dip for an extra kick.

Chocolate Coffee Cake Recipe: Eggless

Cake made with flour, cocoa powder, coffee, sugar, yogurt, oil and vanilla essence.
Chocolate and coffee, a great match. Inspired by the Italian affogato, where hot espresso is poured over vanilla ice cream, this cake combines the gentle bitterness of coffee and cocoa with the sweetness of sugar and the tang of yogurt (CHOCOLATE CAKE VEGETARIAN).

This chocolate coffee cake is hand-made and super moist, soft, and melts in the mouth. Using Nescafé here (though any coffee works), the coffee blends well with cocoa for a simple, balanced taste.

Penang Food Guide: Seberang Perai Malay Food

Malay kuih-muih on a white plate: glutinous rice palm sugar rolls, and individual banana leaf wrapped sticky dough with sweet filling and steamed mash bananas. .
When Penang food is mentioned, Chinese cuisine often comes to mind, both on the island and in Seberang Perai (Mainland). This strong association is due to the long-established Chinese communities, particularly in George Town. From bustling hawker stalls to traditional coffee shops, Chinese food in Penang reflects its cooking heritage and a street food culture that has earned global recognition.

Malay food, on the other hand, is deeply rooted in the traditions of local communities, especially in Balik Pulau and Seberang Perai. Influenced by kampung (village) cooking and flavours from nearby northern states like Kedah and Perlis, Penang’s Malay food stands out with its own distinct identity and taste.

Coconut Milk Fish Recipe: Sri Lankan Malu Kirata

Turmeric coconut milk stew, with crispy fried fish pieces, garnished with spring onions.
There is much riding on fresh coconut milk. It provides nutrients from healthy fats and contains vitamins and minerals like iron and magnesium. Used in moderation, coconut milk forms the base for dishes across Indian and Sri Lankan food (SRI LANKAN FISH CURRY).

For Coconut Milk Fish, known as Malu Kirata, it is a coconut milk stew with fish. This recipe is a tweaked version, perhaps best called Malaysian Fish Coconut Milk Curry. Spices are an integral part of the ingredients (KIRI HODI SRI LANKAN COCONUT MILK STEW)

Kiri Hodi: Sri Lankan Coconut Milk Stew with Boiled Eggs

Stew make from coconut milk, turmeric powder, dry spices, curry leaves, tomatoes, boiled eggs and green chilies.

Add vegetables, and it becomes a Vegetable Coconut Milk Stew. Add boiled eggs, and Kiri Hodi is elevated further. It’s a simple recipe, yet a classic. It goes well with Putu Mayam (string hoppers) or as a gravy for your rice meal.

Meen Puttu Recipe (Fish Puttu)

Close view of turmeric flaked fish, stir fried with Indian dry spices, red chilies, grated coconut, curry leaves and lime juice.
The well-known and popular fish recipe, Meen Puttu, also called Fish Puttu, Spicy Flaked Fish, or Indian Scrambled Fish. Whichever name you use, it all points to golden flaked fish stir-fried with spices and curry leaves.

Soft and tender, with the aroma of curry leaves and spices, it’s enhanced by crunchy, nutty fresh coconut and a touch of spiciness.

A classic heritage dish, handed down through generations of South Indian cooks, especially in Kerala. It’s also popular as a Sri Lankan recipe (COLOMBO SRI LANKA). In Malaysia, though not made regularly at home, it’s often eagerly anticipated in Indian restaurants.

But nothing compares to homemade Meen Puttu, with that special touch of cooking with love (KOCHI KERALA).

Moist and soft, with a subtle tartness, this cake is topped with a glossy chocolate glaze, giving it a dark brown, shiny, and irresistible appearance. Yes, this is the chocolate cake made with Milo.

Best of all, it’s a vegetarian cake and also an eggless cake. Another advantage? This hand-crafted cake doesn’t require a mixer. Completely made by hand (NO-BAKE CHEESECAKE).

Simplicity is the real game changer here. All the ingredients are everyday staples that home bakers usually have on hand or save from previous bakes (BUTTER CAKE).

Avocado, yogurt, mint leaves, olive oil and pepper dip, served with crackers and salads.
There’s something sensational about a luscious avocado dip. It’s a dip you won’t mind dipping your fingers into (CUCUMBER YOGURT SALAD). Avocado by itself is mouthwatering, with a luscious, mild, slightly nutty flavor, a subtle buttery texture, and a hint of peppery spice.

It’s high in healthy monounsaturated fats, good for the heart, and cholesterol-free. Avocado is also nutrient-dense, with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, but still calorie-rich, so moderation is key.

Cantonese Yee Mee

Cantonese Yee Mee is an authentic Chinese noodle dish and an easy recipe. It is made with Yee Mee (or Yi Mein) noodles, a Cantonese egg noodle made from wheat flour and deep-fried for a slightly chewy, spongy texture. If you’re using kuey teow or bee hoon instead of Yee Mee, lightly fry them before cooking for this dish.

The thick, gooey soup relies on a flavorful stock, which is important for the deliciousness of Cantonese Yee Mee. You can use prawn (PRAWN FRIED MEE) or chicken stock for a Halal version, or pork broth if preferred (PORK CHOPS).

The noodles and soup form the core taste of this Chinese noodle dish. Other ingredients depend on your choice of vegetables, usually cabbage or leafy greens, and proteins like seafood, chicken, or pork.

Fried Fish with Soy Sauce

Fried black pomfret fish in soy sauce, garnished with crispy ginger and spring onion.

When it comes to fish, Chinese-style cooking gives you the choice of steaming or frying. First things first: make sure the fish is fresh. Whether you choose to steam or fry, this recipe works for both.

On steamed or fried fish, top with crispy fried julienned ginger, which delivers a sharp, zesty, and fresh spicy taste. Pour soy sauce heated in the same oil used to fry the fish over it, then drizzle sesame oil on top of the fish. Finished with fresh spring onions.

Penang Thaipusam: A Journey of Faith and Discovery

Truth be told, the foundation of Hinduism, I’m not your typical holy Hindu or devotee (MASI MAGAM PANGKOR). Performing poojas or hosting prayers at home by inviting a priest is not part of my routine. Fasting and following a vegetarian diet, even on Hindu festivals, are practices of the devout Hindus I know. These individuals have taught many lessons about faith and spirituality despite their contradictions in attitude, character, and behaviors (VARANASI NIGHT PRAYERS & CHANDIGARH MARVELS).

Still, I had a reason for making a vow, not for myself, but for something else which I prefer not to share. To fulfill this vow by carrying the Paal Kudam (Milk Pot) during Thaipusam, I went to Penang. This was my third time attending the festival, though previously I had only observed the celebrations. This time, it was for the Paal Kudam vow.

Best Things to Do in Bergen, Norway

Indian lady in grey winter coat standing on Mount Fløyen, 320 meter high up, Bergen, Norway.

After that, return to Bergen town and spend a day or two visiting other sightseeing spots or simply relaxing before leaving (ULTIMATE BERGEN NORWAY TRAVEL GUIDE).

Staying in Bergen town before your flight makes it easier to get to Bergen Airport. It’s also convenient for those travelling on to other Scandinavian countries like Finland or Sweden. For travellers transiting through Amsterdam, spending time in Bergen town is a practical and stress-free option, with easy access to tourist destinations in Bergen. Mee Siam Kuah/Gravy (Vegetarian)

Mee Siam Gravy, made with rice noodles, chili and herbs spice-mix, topped with boiled eggs, red chilies, beansprouts, spring onions, tofu pok, and calamansi lime.
Mee Siam is a classic Penang Nyonya (Peranakan) noodle dish in Malaysia. It comes in two styles: dry and gravy (kuah), but both use the same rice vermicelli, also known as mee hoon or bee hoon. The dry version is simple, with just a few ingredients, while the Mee Siam Kuah requires a spice paste as the base of the thick, aromatic gravy.

This recipe features the vegetarian gravy version(MEE REBUS VEGETARIAN). A spicy, fragrant kuah,  poured over blanched rice vermicelli, topped with a variety of garnishes. For a hint of sourness, calamansi lime is paired together. Vegetarians who avoid eggs can simply omit them (MEE GORENG/FRIED MEE).
