Chinese herbal pork soup is one of the easiest and most nourishing dishes in Chinese home cooking. Just add all the ingredients into a pot and let it slowly simmer into an aromatic, delicious soup. If you're using a slow cooker, even better, toss everything in, switch it on, head out, and come home to a pot of herbal comfort.
Whether you prefer pork or chicken, the method is the same. It’s all about your choice of protein. And thanks to the wide availability of pre-packed Chinese herbal mixes. Found in hypermarkets, Chinese provision shops, or traditional Chinese medical halls, this soup is also super convenient to make.
While some of the herbs (like Chinese roots and barks) are not meant to be eaten, ingredients such as dried red dates, wolfberries (goji berries/kei chi), and dried longan not only add natural sweetness but are also edible. White radish adds freshness and nutrition to the soup, making this a wholesome one-pot dish.
A quick tip: drink plenty of water when
consuming Chinese herbal soups, as certain herbs can be heaty for the body.
Otherwise, it’s a warm, tasty, and healthy bowl, on its own or with rice.
