Located in southern Thailand’s Yala Province near the Malaysia-Thailand border, Betong, Thailand is a small town that remains largely undiscovered by mainstream tourists. In recent years, however, it has been gaining attention, even among Malaysian travelers looking for a short getaway.

Often referred to as a “men’s paradise in Thailand,” Betong still offers enough local attractions and experiences to make a two-day visit worthwhile, particularly as part of a southern Thailand itinerary (CHIANG MAI & CHIANG RAI SIGHTSEEING).

For those not planning to stay only in Betong Town, there are several tourist spots in and around Betong, including attractions located farther from the town centre. If you’re not driving, transportation in Betong is easily available for a fee. Most hotels in Betong can assist in arranging tuk-tuks or private transport for sightseeing.

Betong Mongkollit Tunnel

Betong Mongkollit Tunnel is Thailand’s first and largest mountain road tunnel, and it’s located right in the heart of Betong Town. At 268 metres long, it connects the older part of town to the newer area. What makes this tunnel stand out is the colourful lighting display at night, something visitors and locals enjoy taking photos of (PLACES TO VISIT IN PENANG).

During the day, the tunnel is quiet and functional, more of a quick stop if you’re walking around town. But it’s still considered a landmark worth seeing, especially if it's your first time in Betong.

Wat Kuan Im Temple
Just a short walk from the tunnel is Wat Kuan Im, a Chinese-style temple dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. The temple is built on a small hill, and to reach it, you’ll need to climb a series of steps. At the top, you’re rewarded with a nice view of the surrounding town. The large statue of Kuan Im is the main attraction here. Whether you're there to pray or just to admire the structure, it's a peaceful and worthwhile stop (MUST VISIT SIGHTS IN TURKEY).

Thai Massage Centers

All around Betong town, you’ll find Thai massage centers, no-frills places offering foot and body massages. Visitors drop by after a day of sightseeing to rest their tired feet or ease body aches. Prices are fairly standard, so it mostly comes down to location and personal preference. It’s one of the easiest ways to unwind while in town.

Wat Ki Lo Si Temple
Located on a hilltop surrounded by gentle greenery, Wat Ki Lo Si Temple is a quiet Buddhist temple slightly farther from the town center. The temple has golden statues, the gentle ringing of bells and gongs, and small shrines, nothing too grand, but deeply peaceful. You can walk around slowly, say a prayer, or just enjoy the calm.

The view of Betong from the hilltop is a highlight. If you visit early in the morning, you might even catch the sunrise.

Betong Hot Spring

Betong Hot Spring is a popular spot among visitors, set in a quiet, park-like area. You can take a walk in nature and soak your legs in the hot spring pools, known for their natural healing properties. Whether full-body soaking is allowed depends on the time and rules, but dipping your feet in the warm thermal water is definitely part of the refreshing experience.
