Easy Mango Chutney

Indian mango chutney, made with mustard seeds, turmeric powder, chillies, curry leaves, shallots, palm sugar, salt and water.
Spicy, sweet, with a vibrant golden turmeric hue and soft mango. The famed and popular Mango Chutney. This Indian-style chutney isn’t just a side dish for an Asian rice meal. It can be a mango jam as well. Whether cooked with or without chillies, mango chutney is a versatile Indian-style condiment that adds a sweet and tangy kick to dishes (VEGETABLE BIRYANI). 

 

Uses of Mango Chutney

On Toast and Sandwiches

Spread it on plain toast, sourdough, or sandwiches. It pairs well with butter or cream cheese.

As a Dip or Snack Companion

Serve it with samosas, pakoras, or spring rolls.

 

With Cheese and Crackers

Pair it with cheddar, brie, or goat cheese on crackers for a snack.

 

With Grilled Meats and Burgers

Use it as a topping or glaze for grilled chicken, lamb, pork, or burgers.

Ingredients for Mango Chutney
1 medium-sized mango - slice with skin on, include the seed
3 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
4 shallots – chopped
Some chillies
Some curry leaves
1 tsp turmeric powder
Palm sugar to taste
Salt to taste
Water as needed

How to Make Mango Chutney

Heat oil, add mustard seeds and shallots.
Stir until mustard seeds pop.
Add chillies and curry leaves.
Stir everything together.
Add mango and continue stirring.

Add turmeric powder, sugar, and salt.
Pour water (enough to soften the mango to preferred texture).
Once mango has softened, remove from heat.
Sweating chopped shallots, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and chillies in oil.
