It’s all good and fulfilling to
the senses at Awakening. Its modern signboard should instantly grab your
attention once you reach the traffic light across the main road. But please
don’t try to be a hero neither get over-excited like me and switch off Waze
immediately if you are alien to Bukit Tinggi. I am not saying the inner lanes to
the entrance of Awakening is confusing, yet, with Waze, you can actually save some time.
The latest growing up new kid on
the block, Awakening is actually the second phase of Iggo, Setia Alam but obviously
a whole new concept. Kudos to the same young entrepreneurs I am truly
proud of, white is the colour theme in this serene, comfortable and super clean
ambiance. Mind you, nothing fancy frilly neither over the top, but undoubtedly
soothing and uncluttered.
Equally impressive is the warmest greetings by the cheerful and
courteous younger generation, I was also all hyped up over the ample choices of
fusion non-halal dishes, coffee, hot and cold drinks, and desserts listed in a
simplified manner on the clipboard menu.
As an ardent lover of both coffee and
tea, I was unsure which one I should start with. Eventually, I didn’t regret
pleasuring into the Chai Tea made with a concoction of aromatic spices (known
as black tea) imported from Melbourne and fresh frosty milk. A far distance cousin
of masala Indian Chai, Chai Tea is a
must try for those who love a modern-tweeted spiced up Tea.
Once I had calmed down after
a few sips of Chai Tea, I forked into the Roasted Pumpkin Salad (RM12.00) served
in sesame dressing and wasabi. By far, a welcomed choice to begin your meal, tadbit of heat from wasabi especially melded beautifully
with the crunchy pumpkin seeds and veggies, and soft-caramelised pumpkin slices. Thumbs up to
this salad, I then nibbled a slice of the Mushroom Bruschetta with Balsamic
Reduction (RM111.00). Crispy on the outside and atop with mushroom slices, Bruschetta with its mild simple tastes is a perfect appetizer, a
finger food for light eaters or to whet your appetite.
Thereafter, I sampled the two
mains of Mozarella Cheese Tomato Pomodoro (RM16.00) and Zesty Squick Ink Aglio
with Cajun Prawn & Saute Mushroom (RM20.00). Hailed for its simplicity,
Pomodoro is the choice for vegetarians, whereas the al-dente aglio tossed with springy
fleshy prawns and tender mushrooms worked really well in its flavourful sauce.
Squick Ink Aglio surprisingly captured my attention even though I have never
fancied spaghetti/pasta.
At this juncture, I had to take a breather from eating and sipped the mixture of Iced Chocolate Cubes and fresh
milk (RM14.00). Regardless of not being a chocolate lover, this signature drink
of Awakening awoke my taste buds to remain in pride of place for its luscious, creamy and not-too sweet chocolaty tastes.
As I continued to slowly gulp
it down, I was told that 90% of coffee in Awakening is sugarless. Why not? I am fine. I am also fine with
educating customers on no sugar or less sugar, but of course, if you still
prefer, ask and you shall be given. With three more mains, two
desserts and a coffee waiting in line, I was getting a little wary. Not because of
anything else, but because I was already stuffed to the maximum. Even so, such a waste if I didn’t tackle a tiny bit of the Pulled Pork served
with Juicy Salsa and Fries. Proven as a delightful item for fans of porky-pork dishes, I devoured the slow cooked, tender pulled
pork strips filled in sandwich. Evoking a distinctive but non-complex flavour,
this wholesome meal will go up and above as a well-received hearty portion for RM20.00.
The Slow Cooked Pork Stew Risotto (RM20.00) must be applauded as well for its firm,
plump and silky textured risotto, elevated with succulent bitsy pork, vegetables and a thick
flavorful stew.
When it came to Awakening’s breakfast
RM23.00), except for admiring the generous portion, affirmed as
the meal to kick start your day energetically, I had already surrendered to eating.
Nonetheless, I couldn't resist Grandma’s Tiramisu (RM11.00) and
Banana Crumble with Chocolate Ice Cream & Caramelised Sauce (RM13.00).
Both
prettily and stylishly presented in a glass instead of in a plate as a sliced
piece, the heavenly tiramisu notably cannot be faulted, whereas banana crumble must
be crowned as a heart winner. Vouched as a sensational dessert, crunchy crumbly crumble unquestionably strikes a
contrast of texture with the melt-in-the mouth spoonful bite size banana slices,
velvety ice cream and exclusive caramel.
Thank you Awakening, we shall catch up again at Iggo, Setia Alam.
