Chicken Chili With Black Eyed Peas

Generally, its lentils, specifically dhal, forever stocked up in my pantry (Keerai Kottu/Dhal Spinach). For a change, don't ask me why, I bought black eyed peas (Asian Green Peas Soup), which is akin the father, mother, sister or brother from the legumes family. But, seldom is a favorite ingredient for my dishes. Anyway, since I have bought black eye peas, I did, the only dish that kept popping in and out of my mind was Chicken Chili With Black Eyed Peas. Many variations between the many types of chilli chicken (Masala Raisin Chicken, Sweet Sour Chicken, Chicken Soup Watercress & Spicy Chicken Chop) or chicken chilli (Chilli Egg Curry, Chilli Crab, Chilli Fish, Chilli Mutton, Chilli Chicken Potato & Chilli Prawns), however you like to address, the one I made, of course, must be a Malaysian or Asian version, made with the ingredients I already had at home, including the lovingly home grown rosemary (Rosemary Potato Egg Salad, Rosemary Cheesy Potatoes & Rosemary Lemon Baked Chicken). Spicy, creamy and aromatic Chicken Chili With Black Eyed Peas is a spot-on for toast, or filled into pita bread, or wrapped in lettuce leaves, or how our Malaysian eating way? How else, what else, except with nasi/rice. Of course.

2 cups black eyed peas - soak for 2-3 hours and simmer with some water till soft and tender.
400g minced chicken
5 shallots - chopped/slice thinly
1 tbsp ginger paste
1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp chilli flakes (or as as per taste)
1/2 tsp all spice powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg powder (optional)
2-3 sprigs rosemary - remove leaves from stems
1/2 cup cream/milk
1/4 cup water
4 tbsp oil
Salt for taste
Heat oil and saute shallots with ginger paste and garlic paste.
Add chicken, stir, while breaking it up into pieces with the spatula.
Put in chilli flakes, all spice powder ,nutmeg powder, rosemary and salt.
Add beans, cream and water.
Simmer to heat through, stir and remove from heat.
