Kiat Seng Seafood Restaurant (Bandar Puteri, Puchong) Selangor

Another year gone by, another "Mother's Day". Unlike the previous years (Bumbu Bali & Bibiwok), this year, mum was honoured a week earlier. Seemingly I am pushing Mothers Day earlier and earlier, because, as I have already said before, its really crazy these days on Mothers Day. Crowded eateries, literally, in fact, all of it, on top of that, securing a table and waiting for service will really test our patience. So, the best option is pushing Mothers Day way earlier. I am not really sure, maybe next year, it may be one month earlier. Let's just wait and see what is gonna be the trend for the years to come, on this day, deciding on where to lunch was pretty straightforward. Soon as we parked across the main road, I noticed Kiat Seng Seafood Restaurant. I decided at once before family members start debating and then get me all worked up.

I made my decision, I told everyone to follow me into Kiat Seng Seafood Restaurant. We were the only group, 10 of us in Kian Seng, a typical Chinese restaurant. Plain decor, tiled walls, plastic chair and tables lined with "Ong or Wong cloth - Red. You don't even have to call for the menu. Look up at the wall and you will see the dishes. That is not all. You will, if you are first time in Kiat Seng, you will then find out that they are a popular restaurant. Given publicity by the press. Oh-wow, I sure made the right decision, once the actual printed menu was handed over, I called for the dishes, and within the next 10 minutes, we tucked in.

Sambal Stir Fried Eggplant, Long Beans, Tofu and Stink Beans (Petai)
Garlic Stir Fried Lotus Root, Carrot, Beans and Corn
Lala/Clam Soup with Kei Chi/Wolfberries
Kam Heong Chicken
Batter Fried Squid/Sotong
Clay Pot Fish Head Curry
Sweet Sour Crab

Crispy crunchy sotong was the favourite for the kids, everyone happily tucked into the stir fried dishes, lala soup was a little overwhelming with Chinese wine but mum and I loved it. Kam Heong Chicken was all whacked up, fish head curry was tasty though cannot compete with Indian curries and the sweet sour crab was appreciated as well, though sweetness overtook spiciness. Nevertheless, mum, my other half-half and I sincerely, on the whole, loved this home style Chinese meal, whereas family members had mixed comments. Who cares? As long as mum is satisfied, its Mothers Day and not family day. RM250.00 for 10 people? What say you??

  2. That is lotta food :-) Very good shots and a nice review!!
I'm sure your mother had a gala time with you. I liked the bean stir fry, also "lotus root" is brand new to me, looks more like fryums!! Those crabs look authentic and juicy!
I have also observed that the spice level being subtle and placid in Chinese curries, but somehow I like them because they are different from the usual run-of-the-mill Indian curries ;-)
