Kin Ryu Tei Japanese Restaurant - Subang Jaya

Just so after pondering where to dine on this Sunday, driving along the main road across SJ Medical Centre, we agreed to dine at Kin Ryu Tei Japanese Restaurant. Being our first time here, we were quite excited to find out how authentic the food will be. Though the restaurant was only half full, it was quite a wait before we placed our order, that too after continuously calling for service.

The friend picked the tempura set and I had the sashimi set. Our drinks the standard hot green tea. My other half took a while to decide, eventually he settled for the same as mine, the sashimi set and a beer to go with it. We also called for the "Sishamo" fish (pregnant fish). As usual, just like in any restaurant, drinks came first.

While waiting for the mains, we had the small portion of radish and fish in dark sauce. I helped myself to most of it as the half-half and the friend were not really keen. This so called starter/appetizer quite al-right to nibble to keep going.
Thereafter, the mains arrived simultaneously. The sashimi set came with slices of white and red tuna, salmon and three sushi rolls, a bowl of miso soup, white rice, steamed custard (with crabmeat), a little pickled Japanese cucumber and two slices of papaya.
The sashimi felt as though straight out of the fridge and immediately served. Chilled, the icy feeling on the tongue wasn't appetizing. Definitely not to our liking. The pickle quite acceptable and the rest of the accompaniments, well, so-so.
The tempura set consisted of the same accompaniments as the sashimi platter. The only exception was the sauce for dipping the fried prawns and vegetables. I tried the fried tempuras and what can I say except pretty disappointing and tasteless. The Sishamo fish was also a disappointment - tough and over-grilled.

Somehow out of hunger, we ate up and calling for the bill another long wait. RM135.00 for the three of us, absolutely pricey, thus returning to Kin Ryu Tei, I don't think we will ever. Oh, before I forget, ambiance basically similar to another ordinary Japanese restaurant.
