Walking into Buns & Meats after the long drive, I couldn’t help but be simply fascinated with the stylish, spacious and decked in contrast of bright colors atmosphere. Needless to say, to connect the casual concept and overall impression of the family-setting ambiance, the creative wall feature with colorful bottles is one of the central attractions. With options of sitting outside and two dart machines for some fun and entertainment in the inside dining area, Buns & Meat has already attracted plenty of attention within a short period of time, even before it’s one year mark.
What sets Buns & Meat apart from other pork and burger joints is their reputed gourmet pork burgers, hotdogs and pork loaded pizzas to off-the-bones barbecue pork ribs. To take burger to another level, Buns & Meat daringly introduces the Foie Gras Pork burger. Minced Foie Gras and pork to make a juicy and flavorful patty, topped with pan seared Foie Gras, some parmesan cheese and caramelized onions. Being a pork lover and as not to ruin my small appetite, instead of enjoying the richness of the tempting Earl Tea Milkshake, the Fresh Pineapple Juice didn’t disappoint before sampling the array of dishes.
Pulled Pork Fries (RM11.90), like the name suggest, encompassed of crispy fried potato batons and generously topped with tender slow-cooked spicy pulled pork. Regardless of not being my first experience of tasting such a dish, I wouldn’t stop nibbling and ended up talking about forever after, especially how the fries remained crispy-crunchy despite time taken up for picturing.Unlike the usual tacos, the Deep Fried Prawn Tacos (RM16.90) – wheat tortillas neatly tucked with fresh prawns and ever green veggies were an impressive twist for its mild and non-overpowering good tastes. The Korean Pork Belly Tacos (RM14.90), trailing close to the prawn tacos weren’t really that different but indeed, the belly was tasty and soft to the bite, the green veggies and julienne carrot for the fresh burst and the sauce makes for a nice dressing.
Consisting of a pork patty, bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce, topped with a poached egg and homemade cheesy sauce, stuffing the Runny Mess (RM21.90) even into my big mouth was a tricky act. But hei, the messiness is part of the charm. As soon as you spear the poached egg or take the first bite of the burger, the egg will burst to form the centerpiece of this well put together burger.
Arriving simultaneously were the BBQ Pork Ribs (RM47.90), Spicy Korean Pork Ribs (RM45.90) and Balinese Pork Ribs (RM49.90, Paired with crispy fries, salad leaves and tender to its core and falling apart from the bones meat, each variety was coated with a different type of sauce. Accompanied with a spicy sauce, the Balinese Pork Ribs I crowned as the winner though the sauce would have been better with an extra level of spiciness just how I like. Moreover, the sweetness of the three types of ribs didn’t seem right to balance out the flavours.
Stuffed to the maximum, I just couldn’t fork into the Aglio Olio with Pork Bacon (RM17.90) - al-dense pasta cooked with fried pork bacon, mushroom, herbs and chopped dried chilies.
Hopefully, I will have some space in my tummy for the sweet renditions - Bailey’s cheese cake, salted peanut butter cake and Nutella cake. It is also worth considering some of the artisan homemade ice cream like Earl Grey, Cornflakes, roasted white chocolate with Lavender, honey with chocolate chips and so on.
Thank you Buns & Meat
