Fried Apple Fritters

Apple desserts are simply so nice as the fruit seem to gel the flavours together. Obviously the most fav apple dessert is Thin Apple Pie. Since I have already made it, I wanted to make something else. So I look through a few of the old recipe books and found the recipe for apple fritters. I didn't copy the recipe but took the idea and made these fried fritters - pieces of apples dipped in a flour egg-y batter and fried. Soft and gooey apple pieces cased in puffed up batter. Instead of adding sugar in the batter, I dusted icing sugar over the fritter for tad bit of sweetness. Serve or enjoy the fritters while they are still warm. Otherwise the puffed up batter will sink and become soggy.

Ingredients
4 firm Granny apples - peeled, cored and cut each apple into 8 pieces.
3 tbsp caster sugar
Oil for frying

For the batter
1 cup cake flour
1/2 cup cold water
1 egg - lightly beaten
A pinch of salt

Method;
Sift flour into a mixing bowl.
Slowly add cold water and stir for a smooth batter.
Add beaten egg and salt; blend well.
Heat oil and dip apple pieces in it.
Deep fry in heated oil until golden brown.
Remove, dust caster sugar over and serve warm.

  10. These look absolutely fantastic - especially with ice cream! I also like the idea of using cake flour, though I think I would sweeten the batter up with some golden syrup and fry ganache balls... Hmmm :D
    But fruit looks wonderful!

  13. The problem with the fritters in the US, in my opinion, is that the batter is just too heavy and too greasy. Also, very little apple. Your fritters here looks like all those issues are conquered! Just the fact the batter looks so fluffy and light has sold me on this recipe. Well done.
