4 firm Granny apples - peeled, cored and cut each apple into 8 pieces.
3 tbsp caster sugar
Oil for frying
For the batter
1 cup cake flour
1/2 cup cold water
1 egg - lightly beaten
A pinch of salt
Sift flour into a mixing bowl.
Slowly add cold water and stir for a smooth batter.
Add beaten egg and salt; blend well.
Heat oil and dip apple pieces in it.
Deep fry in heated oil until golden brown.
Remove, dust caster sugar over and serve warm.
