Restaurant Padi Prada (Kota Kemuning) - Shah Alam

Entertaining friends when they knock at your door without ample notice can be mind boggling. While I still don't mind welcoming friends with open arms, as a friendly gesture, I have to quickly think about what to serve. At least some snacks with hot or cold drinks, that too depends on what is available at home. Thanks to the packet drinks, cakes or biscuits I had stocked up but the friends stayed on until dinner time. By then the two kids were restless and almost brought my whole house down. Obviously, they were hungry. Since we too were planning to dine out, all of us arrived at Padi Prada we have been to a couple of times.

While the kids hungrily munched the popcorn, we ordered the drinks, two kid-friendly dishes and three more dishes for the four of us.
First to arrive was egg foo yong, simultaneously the rest of the dishes. Fluffy fried eggs with onion and topped with and topped with coriander leaves, egg foo yong the kids happily ate.  Sizzling tofu served in a hot plate consisted of egg tofu and seafood in a thick gravy made with onion, tomato and soy sauce and topped with spring onion for the mild sweet, sour and salty flavours.

Up next was the soft mushy thinly sliced eggplant stir fried with dried prawns . Simply cooked with simple ingredients, this dish indeed was appetizing and went on well with plain white rice.
The sotong/squid with salted eggs was quite a let down because the flavours of the ingredients didn't come through quite right. Perhaps crabs and prawns in such a style would have been better but with sotong, sad to say, was not impressive.
The winning dish was the bawal hitam/black pompret asam - fresh fish with okra for the interplay of spicy and sour flavours and aroma.
After clearing of the dishes, we sipped into the amra/hog plum, barley cincau, Chinese tea, hot lemon barley and canned soy and called it a night.

The friends were quite impressed with the food (RM96.70) and they suggested we should return again. I however thought that we should go back to Spicy Crab Portuguese & Local Cuisine (Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam) - Pork Free for the crazily spicy cuisine.

  2. Looks like a fun restaurant! I love the popcorn on the table - my favorite food! I would be ordering a double dose of the Egg Foo Young!
