Spicy Potato Ikan Bilis/Anchovies

I can still clearly recall. Ikan Bilis/Anchovies the cheap source and one of the affordable ingredients for mummy dearest. I didn't complain. I am still not. I love ikan bilis like nobody's business. Crispy fried is so appetizing, maybe we should watch a little on its saltiness, other than that, I am trigger hunger for dishes elevated with ikan bilis. So much so, till this day, I yearn for ikan bilis regularly. Fried ikan bilis can be of an every day side for me and we Malaysians I believe, instead of adding fresh prawns or meat into our side dishes, we tend to opt for ikan bilis. Indeed. A tiny bit of ikan bilis in stir fried vegggies, or for soup making (Bee Hoon Soup) or as I have already said, crunching, is one of the pleasures to our Malaysian meal (Kampung Fried Rice). Yum. By far. Trust me. Of course, salted fish (Salted Fish Pickle) and dried shrimps (Sambal Udang Kering Petai) are the love of mine as well, anything salty will love Nava K and vice-versa. but since its about the dish of the day, Spicy Potato Ikan Bilis/Anchovies, lemme not divert to the other side of the coin. Spicy Potato (Chicken Curry Potato & Chilli Aloo/Chilli Potato), Ikan Bilis (Brinjal Anchovies Stir Fried), an Indian style of my cooking, potato stir fried alongside ikan bilis, and chilli, and scented with curry leaves, does make an interesting sumptuous side dish.

Ingredients
3 medium size potatoes - simmer and slice with the skin on
2 tbsp  anchovies - soaked in water for 10 mins and drained
1 red chilli - remove seeds and sliced (for spicy version, leave the seeds)
1 green chilli - remove seeds and sliced
5 shallots - sliced thinly
3 sprigs curry leaves
3 tbsp oil
Salt for taste

Method
When oil is heated, fry anchovies until crispy.
Remove and keep aside.
In the same oil, sauté chillies and shallots.
Add potatoes, fried anchovies and curry leaves.
Season with salt.
Stir and cook over high heat. Very quickly.
Dish out.

  7. thanks for the well wishes Nava.

I wonder whether you have been to "Ravi's Banana Leaf", located at Dataran 3 Two (32 Square) 19/1 Petaling Jaya.

We went there the other night. The Curry was really fiery hot. I think maybe you might like it.
