Tom Yam Fried Mee Hoon


Compared to my mum who is a full time home affairs minister, I am a career woman with a family life. To manage both is definitely challenging. Sometimes I am torn apart on which is the priority. I work for pocket money to maintain myself and to buy the things I like without depending on my other half. I take care of everything at home because my other half takes his business very seriously.

While mum has the time to pound and grind ingredients for the dishes she cooks, I take short cuts. I stock up ready made paste for quick fix meals. Of course I like to do what she does. May be possible when I don't have to work from home. Otherwise, its the ready made paste like the tom yam paste for this fried mee hoon - a convenient tasty dish with seafood, chillies and aroma from kaffir lime leaves.

Ingredients
1/2 packet of mee hoon (soak to soften)
15 prawns (de-vein, but leave tail on)
2 small squids (sliced)
2 tablespoons of ready made tom yam paste
1 medium size onion (sliced/dized)
5-6  limau purut/kaffir lime leaves (shredded/sliced)
5 birds eye chillies (sliced)
1/4 cauliflower (cut into small florets)
4 tbsp oil
Salt for taste

Method
Heat oil in a large wok.
When heated, put in the onion, prawns and squids. 
Stir and cook for 3 minutes,.
Add tom yam paste, cauliflower, mee hoon and salt.
Stir to combine all ingredients together.
(Note: if needed, sprinkle a bit of water while stirring to soften both - mee hoon and cauli).
Next add lime leaves and chillies.
Stir again for a couple of times and dish out.

  1. I love Thai cuisines especially Tom Yam and I also love mee hoon as well. Now with both combination, makes the perfect and delicious dish. Now feels like want to go supermarket just to buy tom yam paste and mee hoon to cook this, after reading your blog.
