Its a simple and healthy soup that you can make within half an hour and without feeling stressed out after a tiring day at work. When I have so little time to cook and don't really feel like packing or eating out, I am satisfied with a bowl of spinach and fish ball in ikan bilis/anchovies broth and rice - nothing spectacular but satisfying.
1 bunch small spinach (bayam) - soak and rinse thoroughly.
3 tbsp anchovies (ikan bilis) - soak to soften and rinse.
4 garlic (chopped)
1 small packet fish ball - rinse
1/4 cube of ikan bilis or chicken stock (optional)
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
Method Heat oil and fry ikan bilis first till crispy
Add garlic and stir quickly.
Pour water ( about 1 litre) and simmer till heated through.
Add fish ball and continue to simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes. Add spinach, gently stir and off the heat
Optional; serve with sambal belacan.
Note: pardon the pictures peeps! I am still in the instant stage of taking them. However let me assure you that this soup is good and as said, easy preasy.
